Measuring for blinds is simple and straightforward.

Measuring for blinds is simple and straight forward. It’s important that you give us accurate measurements, so take a look at our handy step-by-step video guides and pdf instructions, which will help you to get it right.

The first thing you need is to decide whether your blind will fit to the inside or the outside of your window recess.

Once you have decided where your blind will fit, simply watch the relevant video.

Measuring Basics

  • Always try and use a metal tape measure, you will get a more accurate result

  • Have a paper and pen ready to write your measurements straight down

  • Look out for things like window handles or tiles. You’ll need to take their position into account to ensure a perfect fit!

  • Double check you are entering your measurements in mm, cm or inches

Measuring Instructions

Inside the Recess

Recess measurements allow the blind to sit within the window

  • Measure the width in 3 places and take the smallest measurement.
  • Measure the drop in 3 places and take the smallest measurement.

*If you select recess, we will deduct your measurement by 1cm – 1.5cm from the width and 1cm from the drop to ensure the perfect fit.

Outside the Recess

Exact fitting means we will make no deductions to your measurements.

  • We suggest overlapping the edge of the window 10cm-20cm each side to reduce light.
  • The drop of the blind is personal choice

*We will manufacture the blind bracket to bracket size, this means your actual fabric size will be around 3cm less and 4cm less with cassette.

Roman Measuring Instructions

Inside the Recess

Recess measurements allow the blind to sit within the window.Measure the width (side wall to side wall) and drop (lintel to windowsill) and we will make the appropriate deductions to ensure a perfect fit. Measure in 3 places for both the width and drop. Use the smallest measurement taken and do not make any deductions. Use a metal tape measure as cloth ones can stretch and give you inaccurate readings. Note: on Roman blinds the stacking height is around 200-300mm and will reduce the amount of light entering the room when open. You may want to consider fitting this outside the recess. See outside the recess for more information’s.

Outside the Recess

To fit outside your window recess on the wall. In this case we will make the blind to your exact measurements with no deductions. This option should also be used if you have different type of configuration and you are confident in measuring correctly. Note: for roller and duplex blinds we will make the blind bracket-to-bracket size. This means the actual cloth will be around 18mm less on each side. On roman blinds as the stacking height is between 200mm – 300mm. You may wish to add this to the height of the blind and so it fits above the window.

Measure the exact width of the area you would like the blind to cover (we recommend the blind to overlap the outside of the window by at least 50-70mm on each side). The drop on the blind is a matter of personal choice, however please take into account obstacles such as radiators..
